AGSC Board Considers Changes to Dues Structure
The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) board of directors is considering changing the AGSC’s dues structure in an attempt to meet the changing needs of the industry and driving public. The group is considering an update to the pricing model used for the Registered Member Company program, and to begin steps to integrate the technician certification program with the Registered Member Company program.

One details the advantages of using an AGSC Registered Member Company for auto glass replacements, and the other outlines the benefits of using an AGSC-Registered Member Company and/or an AGSC Accredited Technician when possible.

Auto Glass Week™ Being Held This Week in Reno, Nev.
Auto Glass Week 2015 is being held this week in Reno, Nev., September 30-October 2. The event will be held at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center and the Atlantis Resort Spa. Additionally, the Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) will hold its annual member meeting on Tuesday, September 29, the day before Auto Glass Week™ gets underway from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The seminar line-up will include updates on the ANSI/AGSC/AGRSS™ Standard, marketing and more.

What are Dams?
“I am interrupting my series on the ANSI/AGSC/AGRSS™ Standard 003-2015 to discuss the use and the slow obsolescence of (some types) of glass dams. A glass dam is a device that holds back a material from going where it is not supposed to go. Dams in our industry are used in three different ways: as a positioning device, an aesthetic feature to hide unappealing material or as a sound barrier between the engine noise and the quiet interior.” –Bob Beranek

Welcome These Certified Master Auto Glass Technicians
A number of auto glass technicians passed the Auto Glass Safety Council™’s (AGSC) Certified Master Auto Glass Technician certification exam during the month of August. The exam is an online test consisting of 50 multiple choice questions. Those who apply to become Accredited Master Auto Glass Technicians must have experience and knowledge in: OSHA-required employee safety regulations; conducting installations according to the current ANSI/AGSC/AGRSS™ Standard; intermediate-level automotive electrical testing and troubleshooting procedures and equipment; OEM sunroof repair and replacement techniques; advanced wind noise and water leak diagnosis and repair; and current standards and regulations that apply to the auto glass industry.

Researchers at the University of Toronto’s Department of Psychology suggest that current augmented-reality heads-up display (AR-HUD) technology poses a safety threat. In a recent study published in PLOS ONE, Professor Ian Spence and his students Yuechuan Sun and Sijing Wu identified a gap in scientific research with regards to the allocation of visual attention.

Vermont State Inspection Mechanic Charged with Manslaughter
Steven Jalbert, a Vermont inspection mechanic, has been charged with one count of manslaughter and one count of reckless endangerment for a “negligent vehicle inspection.” Jalbert is accused of missing a vital flaw with a vehicle’s brake system during inspection. The system later failed causing a death.
