Revised Standard Approved by ANSI
There’s an updated Standard in town. The Auto Glass Safety Council™’s (AGSC) AGRSS™ Standards Committee recently approved a revision to ANSI/AGSC/AGRSS 003-2015, denoted as DRAFT ANSI/AGSC/AGRSS 004-2018. After a public comment period, those changes have now been approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), which oversees the process by which the Standard has been developed and is continuously maintained.

What Does Harmonization Mean?
The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) is in the final stretch of the harmonization of its Registered Member Company program and its Certified Auto Glass Technician program. The programs will be joined together by the end of December 2018. What does this mean for members?

Choosing a Glass Cutter
“A few months ago at Auto Glass University in Michigan I had a conversation with one of my students regarding cutting auto glass versus buying it pre-cut. I think it’s becoming a lost art. Cutting laminated glass is a challenge not many professionals pursue since most parts can be purchased pre-cut. However, cutting your own laminated parts can put a few more dollars in your pocket if you have the equipment and time.” –Bob Beranek

Welcome These Master Auto Glass Technicians
Several auto glass technicians passed the Auto Glass Safety Council™’s (AGSC) Master Auto Glass Technician certification exam during the month of August. The exam is an online test consisting of 70 multiple choice questions. Those who apply to become Master Auto Glass Technicians must have experience and knowledge in: OSHA-required employee safety regulations; conducting all installations according to the current ANSI/AGSC/AGRSS™ Standard.

Master Technician Spotlight: Ronnie Scoggins, Transparency Auto Glass, Clayton, N.C.
Ronnie Scoggins of Transparency Auto Glass in Clayton, N.C., recently passed the Auto Glass Safety Council™’s (AGSC) Master Auto Glass Technician certification exam. Scoggins has been in the industry for more than 14 years and started his own company six years ago. ”I was fortunate enough to have a stepfather introduce me to the auto glass industry at a young age,“ says Scoggins.

All Star Glass Opens New Location in Tempe, Ariz.
San Diego-based All Star Glass has opened a new location in Tempe, Ariz. The AGSC-Registered member company has been in business for 41 years and now has 33 locations in Arizona, Texas, Nevada and California.

Mercedes-Benz Sunroof May Detach
Repair shops and owners may want to keep an eye out for potential issues with the panoramic sunroof on select Mercedes-Benz models, as it may become detached. The detachment may increase the driver’s chance of causing an accident.

Looking Ahead
The offices of the Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) will be closed December 21 through January 2 for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. We will re-open on Thursday, January 3.
