Countdown: Seven Months Until Registration and Certification Programs Unite
The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) is in the final stretch of the harmonization of its Registered Member Company program and its Certified Auto Glass Technician program. The programs will be joined together by the end of December 2018.

Certification News

Welcome These Master Auto Glass Technicians
A number of auto glass technicians passed the Auto Glass Safety Council™’s (AGSC) Master Auto Glass Technician certification exam during the month of April. The exam is an online test consisting of 70 multiple choice questions. Those who apply to become Master Auto Glass Technicians must have experience and knowledge in: OSHA-required employee safety regulations; conducting all installations according to the current ANSI/AGSC/AGRSS™ Standard.

Master Technician Spotlight: Steve Hazelwood, Jack Morris Auto Glass, Memphis, Tenn.
Steve Hazelwood of Jack Morris Auto Glass in Memphis, Tenn., recently passed the Auto Glass Safety Council™’s (AGSC) Master Auto Glass Technician certification exam. Hazelwood has been in the industry for 22 years. “I needed a job, was hired on with no experience/will train, and it turned into a 22-year career,” says Hazelwood.

Tax Reform Success Leads to Trip to D.C. for One Auto Glass Owner
Larry Patterson, owner, Glass Doctor of Dallas Metroplex, says he was pretty shocked when he received an invitation to the White House, a visit he happily made last week. Patterson was invited as part of a group of business owners who have posted tangible results from the nation’s new tax law. Patterson was still on his White House high when we spoke to him this week, and he was happy to share all the exciting details.

Complimentary Regional Certification and Training Programs Planned Throughout the Year
The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) will hold a number of regional certification training courses throughout the year across the United States. Each session will include a three-hour training course, along with time to take the certification exam. The courses will be led by Bob Beranek, owner of Automotive Glass Consultants and chair of the AGSC AGRSS™ Standards Committee.

The Rhode Island House of Representatives currently is considering a bill that provides that “insurance companies may not mandate the use of aftermarket parts without the owner’s consent on motor vehicles less than 48 months beyond manufacture date.”

Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin has signed legislation related to service warranties into law.

Louisiana Bill Sent to Governor for Approval
A Louisiana bill that expands the term “service contract” to “include a contract or agreement for … the repair of chips or cracks in or the replacement of motor vehicle windshields as a result of damage caused by road hazards” is on the way to the governor for approval.

Louisiana Senate Passes Insurance Bill
The Louisiana Senate has passed a bill that “moves the regulation of motor vehicle service contract providers from the Dept. of Insurance to the secretary of state.”

The Minnesota House of Representatives currently is reviewing a bill related to motor vehicle service contract requirements.

New York Senator Introduces Bill Related to Service Contracts
The New York Senate currently is reviewing a bill that “relates to the definition of service contracts; exempts certain warranties and service contracts from applicability of insurance laws; [and] defines road hazards.”

Two Ohio representatives have introduced a bill related to motor vehicle product protection and service contracts.

Colorado Senate and House Vote to Concur on Warranty Bill
The Colorado House and Senate recently voted to concur on a bill designed to “require motor vehicle manufacturers to fulfill warranty obligations.”

New Recall Affects Chevrolet and GMC Models
Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana owners have a new recall to keep an eye out for. General Motors LLC released the recalls on 2014 to 2017 models today, and more than two hundred thousand owners will be effected.

Two Recalls to Know About
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced two recalls this week, one of which is directly related to glass—specifically glass not fully tempered. General Motors LLC is recalling certain 2018 Chevrolet Equinox vehicles. “The driver and front passenger door window glass may not be properly tempered. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 205, “Glazing Materials.”
