AGSC Debuts Marketing Co-Op Program for Smaller Companies
The Auto Glass Safety Council™’s (AGSC) board of directors recently approved a pilot marketing co-op program for smaller companies. This two-year pilot program enables companies that employ three technicians or less to receive a $300 discount on their annual AGSC registration dues of $600.

Welcome These Master Auto Glass Technicians
A number of auto glass technicians passed the Auto Glass Safety Council™’s (AGSC) Master Auto Glass Technician certification exam during the month of February. The exam is an online test consisting of 70 multiple choice questions. Those who apply to become Master Auto Glass Technicians must have experience and knowledge in: OSHA-required employee safety regulations; conducting all installations according to the current ANSI/AGSC/AGRSS™ Standard.

The Auto Glass Safety Council (AGSC) will hold an Insurers’ CEU Forum for the insurance community on Wednesday, September 26, in San Antonio, Texas. The seminar provides education about auto glass safety and 3 CEU credits to participants.

Complimentary Regional Certification and Training Programs Planned Throughout the Year
The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) will hold a number of regional certification training courses throughout the year across the United States. Each session will include a three-hour training course, along with time to take the certification exam. The courses will be led by Bob Beranek, chair of the AGSC AGRSS™ Standards Committee.

West Virginia Governor Signs Bill Related to Auto Glass
The West Virginia governor has signed a bill designed to “repeal antiquated code sections regarding safety glass and lighting in motor vehicles.”

Minnesota Senate Reviews Bill Related to Vehicle Service Contract Requirements
Two Minnesota Senators have introduced a companion bill to a House bill that aims to change the state’s motor vehicle service contract requirements description to include a number of services. Among the new listed services is “the repair of chips or cracks in a motor vehicle windshield or the replacement of a motor vehicle windshield as a result of damage caused by a road hazard.”

Idaho Governor Signs Bill Related to Service Contracts
The governor of Idaho has signed a bill that updates the Idaho Motor Vehicle Service Contract Act into law. According to a summary of the bill, “the proposed legislation moves the authority to enforce the Act from the Attorney General to the Department of Insurance.”

Oklahoma Bill Moves Forward
The Oklahoma legislature currently is reviewing a bill that relates to “service warranties; amending [the sections of the law] which relate to definitions, audited financial statements, duration of suspension, annual statement filing and examinations of service warranty associations; modifying definitions; requiring certain financial statements to be audited and submitted to Insurance Commissioner under certain circumstances; updating statutory references; and providing an effective date.”

Indiana House Amends Anti-Steering Bill; Senate Dissents on Amendments
The Indiana House recently voted to pass a bill aimed to prohibit steering by insurers with amendments. The bill was returned to the Senate, which “dissented from the House amendments.”

Louisiana Rep. Prefiles Bill Related to Service Contracts and Auto Glass
A Louisiana representative has pre-filed a bill that “moves the regulation of motor vehicle service contract providers from the Dept. of Insurance to the secretary of state.” The bill also expands the term “service contract” to “include a contract or agreement for … the repair of chips or cracks in or the replacement of motor vehicle windshields as a result of damage caused by road hazards.”

The Minnesota House of Representatives currently is reviewing a bill that aims to “clarify window glazing exceptions for limousines.”

The Michigan House of Representatives currently is reviewing a bill that would “remove prohibitions on window tinting and objects that obstruct a driver’s vision.”

Iowa Window Film Bill Passes Senate
The Iowa legislature currently is reviewing a bill that aims to specify a required minimum light transmittance of 35 percent for windshields, side windows and side wings to the front, left or right of driver.

NHTSA Releases Preliminary Traffic Safety Facts for 2016
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently released its annual Traffic Safety Facts. As predicted, the number of crashes and fatalities increased in 2016. Numbers for 2016 are not final, but statistics for previous years are not likely to change.
