AGSC to Offer Training Opportunities in San Antonio and Virginia in October
The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) will hold two more regional training and accreditation programs in 2016. Training programs will be held during Auto Glass Week™ 2016 in San Antonio in October and mid-way between Washington, D.C., and Richmond, Va. in late October. Additionally a training and accreditation program was held in suburban Seattle, Wash., in June.

Pulling Cowls: Let’s End the Debate
“In July 2012, I wrote a blog post about the debate between pulling cowls vs. tucking the glass when replacing windshields. The question came up again recently. As someone who has been training in the automotive glass industry for many years, I have learned firsthand that safety can never take a backseat behind margins and productivity. Instead of saying, ‘I put in the glass safely every time,’ some techs say (and I hate this) ‘I never had a problem.’ My question to the people who say they never had a problem is, define 'problem?' ” –Bob Beranek

Welcome These Certified Master Auto Glass Technicians
A number of auto glass technicians passed the Auto Glass Safety Council™’s (AGSC) Certified Master Auto Glass Technician certification exam during the month of May. The exam is an online test consisting of 50 multiple choice questions.
Those who apply to become Accredited Master Auto Glass Technicians must have experience and knowledge in: OSHA-required employee safety regulations; conducting all installations according to the current ANSI/AGSC/AGRSS™ Standard; intermediate-level automotive electrical testing and troubleshooting procedures and equipment; OEM sunroof repair and replacement techniques; advanced wind noise and water leak diagnosis and repair; and current standards and regulations that apply to the auto glass industry.

Seven Techna-Glass Techs Pass Master Exam During Month of May
A total of seven Techna-Glass technicians from Taylorsville, Utah, took and passed the Auto Glass Safety Council™’s (AGSC) Accredited Master Auto Glass Technician exam during the month of May. This is the highest number of technicians from one company ever to pass the Master exam in one month.

Registration for Auto Glass Week™ Competitions Ends on August 5
This year’s Auto Glass Week™ will once again include the Pilkington Clear Advantage Auto Glass Technician Competition (AGTO) and the GlasWeld Windshield Repair Competition in Honor of Walt Gorman (WRO). Registration for both competitions officially closes August 5 and competitors are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Be sure to register soon if you are interested in competing, as there is absolutely no on-site registration to compete. Space is limited.

NHTSA Seeking Public Comment on Crash Test Vehicle
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has teamed up with the European New Car Assessment Program, Thatcham and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) to develop a specialized 3D crash model to test vehicles that include Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The agency has scheduled a public meeting to allow stakeholders to view the vehicle and offer comment.

Daimler Vans and Volvo Recall Vehicles over Glazing Issues
Daimler Vans is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles saying the windows could separate during a crash. Volvo is also issuing a recall for certain model year 2016 XC90 vehicles due to a potential sunroof issue.
