Complimentary Regional Certification and Training Programs Planned Throughout the Year
The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) will hold a number of regional certification training courses throughout the year across the United States.
Each session will include a three-hour training course, along with time to take the certification exam. The courses will be led by Bob Beranek, chair of the AGSC AGRSS™ Standards Committee and president of Auto Glass University.

Welcome These Master Auto Glass Technicians
A number of auto glass technicians passed the Auto Glass Safety Council™’s (AGSC) Master Auto Glass Technician certification exam during the month of December. The exam is an online test consisting of 70 multiple choice questions. Those who apply to become Master Auto Glass Technicians must have experience and knowledge in: OSHA-required employee safety regulations; conducting all installations according to the current ANSI/AGSC/AGRSS™ Standard.

Florida Windshield Inspection Bill Passes Senate Committee
A Florida Senate bill that proposes to add language related to windshield inspections to the state’s law was passed with a unanimous vote by the Florida Senate’s Banking and Insurance Committee on January 16. The committee passed a substituted version of the bill.

Mississippi Legislature Considers Changes to Insurance Law
A member of the Mississippi House of Representatives has introduced a bill to amend the state’s insurance law “to provide the most an insurer will be required to pay for the repair of a motor vehicle is the prevailing market rate that the vehicle could be repaired for in accordance with the manufacturer’s suggested repair standards.”

Iowa Bill Seeks to Address Shop Choice, Excludes Auto Glass
A bill has been filed in the Iowa House of Representatives that aims to add a section about automobile repair facility choice to the state’s law. However, the bill notes that “for the purposes of this section: ‘Automobile repair business or location’ does not include a business or location that exclusively provides automobile glass replacement, glass repair services, or glass products.”

WV Legislature Reviews Bill Related to Inspections and Windshield Damage
A bill has been filed in the West Virginia House of Delegates that “relates to inspection of vehicles and provides that defects in windshields and windows that do not obscure vision are not unsafe conditions.”

IIHS Releases Its 2018 ‘Top Safety Pick’ Vehicles
Only fifteen 2018 vehicles qualify for the Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, after the requirements were strengthened to include good-rated headlights and good or acceptable passenger-side protection in front crashes.

Takata Air Bags Recall Expands to 3.3 Million Vehicles
Japanese air bag maker Takata is recalling an additional 3.3 million faulty air bag inflators as it expands the largest automotive recall in U.S. history. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the phased recalls began in May 2016 stemming from previous Takata air bag incidents, and will continue through December 2019.

Acknowledging the size of the open, flat space necessary for a proper ADAS recalibration, a Honda collision expert said Thursday the OEM was “looking at solutions” to the issue.

RECALL: Hyundai and Kia Recall 500,000 Cars over Faulty Brake Light
Hyundai and Kia are recalling a total of approximately half a million compact cars over a brake light issue. Specifically, the recall affects 363,932 Hyundai Elantras from model years 2013-2014 and 134,366 Kia Fortes (Koup variety included) from model years 2012-2014.
