AGSC to Offer Three Free Regional Training Opportunities This Year
The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) will hold three regional training and accreditation programs in 2016. The first will be held in suburban Seattle, Wash., in June. The second will be held during Auto Glass Week™ 2016 in San Antonio in October. A third session will be offered mid-way between Washington, D.C., and Richmond, Va. in late October.

Certification Exam Fee Now Includes Up to Two Retries to Pass Exam
The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) has adjusted its certification program so the fee to become certified now includes up to three attempts by the same technician to pass the certification exam.

Validation Essentials
In April, the Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) will begin its 2016 validations. This will be the first year that validations are conducted to ANSI/AGSC/AGRSS™ Standard 003-2015, the most recent version of the AGRSS™ Standard. Because of the change to the Standard, the documents that the validators use to conduct the validation have also changed. They are available on the AGSC website for your review.

Welcome These Certified Master Auto Glass Technicians
Auto Glass Safety CouncilA number of auto glass technicians passed the Auto Glass Safety Council™’s (AGSC) Certified Master Auto Glass Technician certification exam during the month of January. The exam is an online test consisting of 50 multiple choice questions. Those who apply to become Accredited Master Auto Glass Technicians must have experience and knowledge in: OSHA-required employee safety regulations; conducting all installations according to the current ANSI/AGSC/AGRSS™ Standard; intermediate-level automotive electrical testing and troubleshooting procedures and equipment; OEM sunroof repair and replacement techniques; advanced wind noise and water leak diagnosis and repair; and current standards and regulations that apply to the auto glass industry.

The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) will hold its 2016 annual member meeting on Tuesday, October 4, in San Antonio, Texas, at the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter. The meeting will be held the day before Auto Glass Week™, October 5-7, kicks off.

Auto Glass Week™ 2016 Hotel Reservation Block Now Available
Registration for Auto Glass Week™, taking place October 5-7, 2016, in San Antonio, has opened. The event will encompass everything from educational seminars and exhibits to networking opportunities, in addition to the crowd-favorite repair and replacement competitions. Our host hotel, the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter, is offering Auto Glass Week attendees and sponsors discounted room rates available on a first-come, first-served basis. The event rate is $159 USD per night, plus tax for single room, double occupancy and the room block is now open.

ISO Publishes New Auto Glass Standard
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has published a new standard related to security glass used in vehicles. The standard, titled “Road vehicles — Determination of resistance to forced entry of security glass constructions used in vehicle glazing — Test of glazing systems,” was published on January 15. “This International Standard provides test procedures that are designed to assess levels of resistance to forced entry provided by security glazing used in vehicles,” reads the scope of the standard.

Chrysler Recalls Vehicles Due to Windshield Primer Issue
Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Chrysler Town and Country and 2014-2015 Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles due to a possible faulty windshield installation in the factory. According to the announcement from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the windshields on the affected vehicles “may have been installed using expired urethane primer, allowing the windshield to become displaced in the event of a crash.”

Foxx Announces Proposed Budget for Autonomous Testing, Safety Agreement with Automakers
Two big announcements came from U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Anthony Foxx during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The first was made yesterday evening when Foxx said the administration has proposed a 10-year, $4 billion investment plan to “accelerate the development and adoption of safe vehicle automation through real-world pilot projects.” In the second, which came today, Foxx announced 18 automakers have signed a DOT safety agreement.

Rosekind: Vehicles with ADAS Must Be Repaired Correctly
“We want to focus initially on rolling out automatic-emergency braking. Let’s hope all the cameras and sensors work after the car is repaired,” said Mark Rosekind, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) administrator, during the Washington, D.C., Auto Show on Thursday. “When vehicles are repaired, including windshield replacement, let’s hope this technology works correctly.
