For the Record: The Most Common Validation Noncompliance
"The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) has been performing validations to the AGRSS™ Standard for seven years. During that time, Registered Member Companies have come a long way in their understanding and execution of the Standard’s requirements. They have even, for the most part, become used to the idea of showing the validators that they are meeting the requirements. However, there is one type of noncompliance that has continued from our first year of validations to now. Galvanic Corrosion
 “I get questions from techs in the field about galvanic corrosion regularly. This article discusses where we should look for corrosion when installing auto glass and what we can do to prevent it. Wikipedia defines galvanic corrosion (also called bimetallic corrosion) as an electrochemical process in which one metal corrodes preferentially when it is in electrical contact with another, in the presence of an electrolyte.” –Bob Beranek

Welcome These Master Auto Glass Technicians
A number of auto glass technicians passed the Auto Glass Safety Council™’s (AGSC) Master Auto Glass Technician certification exam during the months of July. The exam is an online test consisting of 70 multiple choice questions. Those who apply to become Master Auto Glass Technicians must have experience and knowledge in: OSHA-required employee safety regulations; conducting all installations according to the current ANSI/AGSC/AGRSS™ Standard."

Master Technician Spotlight: Tim Hollingsworth, Performance Auto Glass
Tim Hollingsworth of Performance Auto Glass in Peyton, Colo., recently passed the Auto Glass Safety Council™’s (AGSC) Master Auto Glass Technician certification exam. Hollingsworth has been in the auto glass industry for 27 years. “I first started in the auto glass industry by answering an ad in the local newspaper for an apprentice position,” says Hollingsworth.

AGSC to Hold Insurers' CEU Forum in West Palm Beach, Fla.
The Auto Glass Safety Council (AGSC) will hold an Insurers' CEU Forum for the insurance community on Tuesday afternoon, October 3, in West Palm Beach, Fla. The seminar will provide education about auto glass safety and 3 CEU credits to participants. The course has been approved by the states of Florida, Colorado, Michigan, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.The Insurers’ CEU Forum will be held at the Hilton West Palm Beach just before Auto Glass Week™ gets underway.

Don’t Forget the AGSC Member Meeting
There is still time to plan to attend the Auto Glass Safety Council™’s (AGSC) 2017 annual member meeting this fall. The meeting will be held on the morning of Tuesday, October 3, in West Palm Beach, Fla., from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Hilton West Palm Beach. A lunch will follow from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. before the AGSC Insurers’ CEU Forum gets underway.

The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) will hold a technician training accreditation program in West Palm Beach, Fla., in October. The course will be held on Friday, October 6, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. The exam will follow at 2 p.m. that day.

Subaru Motions to Dismiss Lawsuit over Spontaneous Windshield Breakage
Subaru of America (SOA) has asked the U.S. District Court in Northern California to dismiss a lawsuit seeking class action status on claims of alleged spontaneous windshield breakage. The June 1 lawsuit was brought forth by Lucia Luong, alleging the windshields of 2015 through 2016 Subaru Outback and Legacy vehicles “contain one or more design and/or manufacturing defects that cause the windshield to crack, chip and/or fracture.”

GM Plans to Start Certification Program to Set Calibration Standards
General Motors’ (GM) Customer Care and Aftersales division announced its plans to launch a comprehensive collision certification program in 2018 that will train technicians in calibration, as well as scanning. The news was released this week at the NACE automechanika show taking place in Chicago.

Lawsuits Highlight the Influence Auto Insurers Have Over Auto Repairs
John Eagle Collision Center, a Texas auto body shop, is in the midst of a $1 million lawsuit for alleged negligence due to a repair of a 2010 Honda Fit roof. According to court documents, the collision center neglected to use Honda's OEM repair specifications, which required the roof to be welded in place and, instead, used a 3M adhesive to allegedly cut down on insurance costs. Boyce Willis, the director of John Eagle, stated in his deposition that State Farm Insurance dictated how the repair would be performed, or else the insurer wouldn't foot the bill, bringing attention to the influence an insurer can have on an automotive repair. The outcome of the case has implications for the auto glass industry.
